I guess this could also be a post about dark/horror fairy tales in general? I haven't gobbled up every single one published in maybe the last 5-10 years, so I could be missing some. and I recommend, yes, "Red as Blood," "The Golden Rope," "Thorns," and I guess "When the Clock Strikes." "The Princess and her Future" is straight-up horror, but I'm not crazy about it personally, and "Wolfland" is on the border (hehe, get it. Is anyone else a big fan of the more horror-ish stories in this collection? My favorite is "The Golden Rope," where Rapunzel is raised to be a perfect and willing sacrifice to Satan (or, a Satan-esque figure), and during occult rituals, she sees her hair fall all the way to the floor of Hell for that Satan-figure to climb and thus enter our world. ![]()
